: So she ,the new first lady to be, says she has never been been proud to be an american all of her adult life until now.
: Ain't that swell.
Quite frankly, there are a lot of things about America that do not make me feel very proud. After Bush's first horrendous term in office, I was not at all proud that he and his cohorts were able to scare Americans into voting him into office again, for just one small example. The way we've propped up tyrant dictators, bombed the s**t out of Vietnam, ruined Iraq, decimated the Native Americans, act the bully around the world are a few more. If I were a black woman I'd have a lot more reasons. That doesn't mean that I don't love this land, many of the people and the brave, forward thinking wisdom of our founding fathers and the constitution. I too am proud to see the youth of our country inspired enough to care about the direction our country will go in and to take part with enthusiasm rather than to just sink into the cynicism that so many of us have felt about the political process especially after the 2000 election. I am also proud to see that we have finally taken seriously the candidacy of a woman and an African American. I would be proud to have Michelle Obama as First Lady.
