: Well this is the part I hate about all this. So much mud slinging. You've got good people or their PR's coming up that in real life you wouldn't normally hear come out of their mouth.
: So was McCain's dad in the service when he was born. And they are US Citizens. If they're making a deal of this now with the mud slinging then does that make every military personal who's kids were born over seas maybe not a US citizen?? Give me a break.

Actually, no one is saying that John McCain is not a legal citizen of the United States. What is at question is the rule that only a "natural born" citizen can be the president. For instance, Gov. Arnold Schwartzeneger could not be president even though he is a citizen because he wasn't born into citizenship. That's an easy to understand case. But does "natural born" mean that one has to be born within the physical confines of the United States or does it extend to children of American citizens born out of the country (especially military personnel). They are born automatic citizens of the U.S. but are they legally "natural born"? None of the other candidates have brought this up; it is one of those questions that has come up in the past with other candidates who were born off-shore and has never been legally decided one way or the other because none of those candidates ever made it as far as John McCain. Most experts feel that McCain would qualify for "natural born" citizenship.
