What is interesting is that in the midst of one of the great crisis of our times...IE Out of control energy consumption... that we continue to insist on our daily glut of oil. We pretty much drive the same amount as we always did and in same gas guzzlers we always have. And with the price of oil going up every day before our eyes we kick and scream about the government and their policies and how they should help us.

Recently I was driving through the Chicago Indiana area and as far as this eye could see in all directions great interstates were choked with vehicles of all kinds. Mass exhaust pollution and traffic so dense that slowdowns were rampant and standstills with millions of engines burning millions of gallons and going nowhere were the norm. How many places in this country - on the globe - are there similar scenes? I wonder.

Meanwhile politicians as mentioned in the above article
continue to court votes with plans to lower the price of gasoline. MCaine wants to do away with the federal gasoline taxes so we can all have a driving spree of a holiday this summer. Of course this will increase gas consumption and sink us even deeper into the energy crisis that is engulfing us more and more every day.

The only realistic solution is for the price of gas to go up to twice or even three times what it is now. This will begin to force the worst gas guzzlers off the road whose owners will simply not be able to afford to run them. The beauty of this solution is that it is happening all by itself right now without government intervention. I suspect that within a year or so oil will be $200 a barrel what with China and India wanting it as much as we do. This might even motivate some innovative car manufacturers to produce cars that will get 100 miles and upwards per gallon, so that when gas hits $10-$15 a gallon as it will within a few years we will still be able to drive or fly to visit our relatives on the holidays.

Did ya know that four or five years ago there was an electric car that effectively got the equivalent of more than 100 mpg, and produced no pollution and needed no maintanence; but all the car companies agree to take them out of production and they exist today only in museums. They were excellent vehicles too and the fleets of them that were produced were *ALL* recalled without explanation... Your automotive and oil lobby at work.
