A baby isn't born until its life in the womb becomes so uncomfortable that it is no longer possible to continue to stay in its once safe haven. The auto and energy industries will also have to give birth to new ideas even though they have lingered as long as they possibly can in their old ways. I suspect that when we can no longer afford to fill up our gas guzzlers to get to work or the doctors, then we will either get a smaller, more efficient car or get a bicycle or take up walking. We might all end up in better shape and with better air as a result.
