mystical fugue
at the crossing
of day and night

below

a thousand praying frogs
thunder their plainsongs
into pilgrim darkness

above

the holy frigid light
communes its splintered colors
with divinity departed

between

wind-shaped trees
an eternal clergy
in pious contemplation
and sacred concordance
chant silent orphic invocations
from their hallowed sea-side rectory
